Sargent Center
In a camp far away...Sargent Center...in Hancock, New Hampshire...5th graders and their teachers braved the weather and challenged themselves to try new experiences. Fifth grade students in Mr. Miner's, Mrs. Austin's, Mrs. Dymek's and Mr. Skillings' classes spent a week at the outdoor education camp, living in cabins, eating in a dining hall and spending the day and sometimes evening outside in the natural elements. Students traveled in mixed groups experiencing new and different kinds of activities, such as, astronomy, building a campfire, searching for signs of animals and humans in the woods, and learning how humans can live in a more ecologically sound way. A highlight for many during the week was the day at the high ropes course. Students were able to set goals for themselves and were cheered on by their peers as the attempted to master the ropes course. Students, teachers, administrators and Officer Sculthorpe enjoyed the chance to learn and grow with each other throughout the week.
