Davis Hill's First Annual Turkey Trot

Ms. Howell's idea of a Turkey Trot grew into a great success this Fall! As a part of the Physical Education curriculum, students learn about all types of physical acitivities that may become life pursuits. This Fall, students learned about fitness and conditioning through various workouts, including jogging. They jogged indoors and outdoors, slowly and quickly, in groups and alone. All of this jogging turned into an opportunity to give to our community. Students collected pledges from family members and then dedicated themselves to increasing the number of laps they could jog in the gym during a 5 minute challenge. During their PE classes an observer could see joggers and feather wielding peers shouting support for their partners, handing them a feather to mark each lap. After each challenge, students collected money from their pledges. The final total, $3,792 was donated in whole to a new PTA fund, Families in Need. This fund has already been tapped for families in the Davis Hill community who needed a little financial lift around the December Holidays.
