The Wachusett Regional School District includes twelve schools in the five towns of Holden, Paxton, Princeton, Rutland, and Sterling. These schools include elementary and middle schools in the Member Towns and a regional high school serving all high school students.

In 1950, Wachusett became the first regional school district in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a 9-12 district with the high school opening in 1954 on Main Street in Holden, overlooking  Mt. Wachusett.  Elementary students were educated in their respective towns.

In 1994, the five Member Towns voted to merge all the schools into a K-12 district. Proud of their independence and individuality, the challenge was to retain the character of each of the towns while combining their efforts to provide the highest quality of education for the region’s students.

There is a deep commitment within the District and its parents to provide ALL students with a quality education that is truly "World Class."  With the advent of Education Reform and K-12 regionalization, the District and our students have been the beneficiaries of three blessings:

bullet

The benefits of Educational Reform and K-12 regionalization have provided a new vision for education and the resources to undertake the re-creation of our public school system.

bullet

Wachusett students have benefited from the broad support for improving public education shared by the parents of our students, the citizens of our District, and state level leadership at the Department of Education and Legislature.

bullet

Wachusett teachers have demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to bring the benefits of Education Reform and K-12 regionalization  into the lives of the children in their classrooms. The results of their efforts are amply demonstrated in the exemplary gains in student achievement, and the vitality of the District's
educational programs.
